Surgical Dermatology

Surgical dermatology procedures enhance your skin appearance using various techniques to produce a more radiant and youthful appearance.

Skin Cancers

Skin cancers are the most common types of cancers that if detected early can be treated effectively. The three main types are Basal Cell Carcinoma, Squamous Cell Carcinoma and Melanoma. Melanoma is the most deadly form of skin cancer.

Regular sunscreen use and sun-protective behavior along with regular skin checks by a qualified professional are important ways to reduce your risk of developing skin cancers.

Skin cancers are surgically removed to prevent further spread to the body.

Wart Removal

Warts are benign (not cancerous) skin growths that appear on the skin. There are various types of warts. A common type is the Seborrheic wart which is a non-cancerous skin growth that develops in individuals as they age.
They are not contagious but may resemble moles or skin cancer (Melanoma). They may become irritated or patients may dislike their appearance. Treatment involves removal by electrodesiccation.

Mole Removal

Moles are clusters of pigment-producing cells that often appear as small, dark brown spots or raised lesions. They generally appear during childhood but may develop in adults. Moles can come in a range of colors and can develop virtually anywhere on your body. Most moles are harmless unless they change in size, shape, color become itchy, or bleeding which requires investigation by a dermatologist to determine if there are cancerous changes. Monitoring moles and other pigmented patches is an important step in detecting skin cancer, especially malignant melanoma.

Keloids

A keloid is a type of raised scar that forms from a cut, piercing, or surgical incision that grows larger than the wound that caused the scar. Some persons have keloid prone skin and can form keloids when the skin is cut, burned, or pierced. The size and shape of keloids is related to the part of the body where it occurs.

Several treatment options are available to remove them or to reduce their appearance. Surgery, cryotherapy, steroid injections, and topical treatment are used to treat keloids.

Cysts

A cyst is a sac-like pocket of membranous tissue that contains fluid, air, or other substances. Cysts can grow almost anywhere in your body or under your skin. They can vary in appearance depending on their type and location. There are several types and most are non-cancerous. Cysts are caused from infections, chronic inflamation, blockages abd genetic factors.

Surgical procedures are used to remove them.
